Hunan’s foreign trade up 17.1% in first two months

Hunan Province’s total import and export value in the first two months of 2026 totaled 91.69 billion CNY in the first two months of this year, up 17.1 percent year on year, according to statistics released by Changsha Customs. Of the total, exports reached 53.61 billion CNY, up 10.7 percent, while imports rose 27.5 percent to 38.08 billion CNY.

In terms of trading partners, Hunan recorded faster-than-average growth in trade with Hong Kong, Europe and Latin America. In the first two months, trade with ASEAN, Latin America, Hong Kong and the European Union totaled 15.94 billion CNY, 13.56 billion CNY, 10.45 billion CNY and 9.46 billion CNY, respectively, up 13 percent, 48.5 percent, 64.6 percent and 46 percent. These markets accounted for 53.9 percent of Hunan’s total foreign trade. Meanwhile, trade with Africa reached 8.05 billion CNY.

On the export side, the structure continued to move toward more advanced and higher-quality products.Exports of mechanical and electrical products totaled 32.3 billion CNY, up 24 percent, accounting for 60.2 percent of total exports. Among them, exports of automobiles, the “new trio” products (electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries, and photovoltaic products), as well as flat-panel display modules reached 5.58 billion CNY, 3.58 billion CNY and 2.03 billion CNY, rising 50.5 percent, 99.1 percent and 66.7 percent, respectively. Exports of high-tech products rose 57.1 percent to 7.48 billion CNY. Meanwhile, exports of traditional products such as construction machinery, ceramics, rail transit equipment, fireworks and lighters increased 27.4 percent, 24.1 percent, 8.9 percent, 4.7 percent and 5.8 percent, respectively.

On the import side, demand for mechanical and electrical products and consumer goods remained robust. Imports of mechanical and electrical products rose 24.3 percent to 9.52 billion CNY, accounting for 25 percent of total imports. Imports of integrated circuits and computers and components increased 30.9 percent and 10.5 times, respectively. Boosted by consumption demand during the Spring Festival, imports of consumer goods reached 3.32 billion CNY, up 7.4 percent. Among them, imports of beef, aquatic products and dairy products stood at 1.22 billion CNY, 480 million CNY and 390 million CNY, surging 268.7 percent, 47.7 percent and 13.9 percent, respectively.

Private enterprises remained the main driver of foreign trade growth. Their import and export volume reached 73.24 billion CNY, up 21.8 percent, contributing 16.7 percentage points to the province’s overall growth. Private firms accounted for 79.9 percent of Hunan’s total foreign trade and 83.6 percent of exports. During the same period, state-owned enterprises recorded 10.65 billion CNY in foreign trade, up 7.3 percent.
