On Feb 5, a shipment of 2,006.1 kilograms of golden crabs from Kenya arrived at Changsha Huanghua International Airport on a flight from Nairobi. Following on-site inspection by officers from Changsha Huanghua Airport Customs, the batch was cleared and released on the same day, supplying China’s festive consumption market.
Kenyan golden crabs are a distinctive deep-sea fishery resource native to the country. Renowned for their tender, sweet and springy texture, they are rich in high-quality protein and trace elements, making them popular among global consumers. The latest shipment will mainly supply catering businesses, hotels, and fresh food supermarkets in Hunan Province and neighboring regions. During the Spring Festival festival, the company plans to import 3 to 5 tonnes of golden crabs from Kenya each week to meet growing domestic demand for seafood.
As the Spring Festival approaches, increasing volumes of fresh products are being transported to Hunan by air, adding variety to festive dining tables for local consumers. Since January of 2026, Changsha Huanghua Airport Customs has supervised nearly 10 tonnes of fresh and live aquatic products, fruits and other perishable goods. To ensure the swift clearance of imported festive food products, Changsha Huanghua Airport Customs has launched a “Fresh Produce Fast-Track Clearance” service, opening a green channel for fresh, live and perishable agricultural and food products. Customs authorities have closely followed enterprise needs and implemented a 24/7 appointment-based clearance service, enabling imported fresh goods to undergo immediate inspection upon arrival and be released promptly.
